The evening ritual. Warm amber paste poured over cold vanilla — a quiet, grown-up dessert.
When you want the ceremony without the cup. The contrast of warm Hōcha against cold vanilla is the whole pleasure.
You'll need
- 1 tsp Hōcha (Madagascan Vanilla Hōjicha Latte Powder)
- 50ml just-off-the-boil water
- 1 generous scoop of vanilla ice cream (or a good vegan vanilla)
Method
- Whisk the Hōcha with the hot water in your chawan into a glossy, deep mahogany paste — a little looser than for a latte.
- Set a scoop of vanilla in a small glass or bowl.
- Pour the warm Hōcha over the top at the table, so it melts as you go.
Toasted chestnut and warm caramel against cold vanilla — naturally low in caffeine, so it sits happily after dinner.
