The Original Hōcha Latte

The everyday ritual. Warm, honeyed, quietly grounding — the one to come back to.

The slow way to start a morning. Whisked like matcha, never stirred like instant — that small ceremony is the whole point.

You'll need

  • 1 tsp Hōcha (Madagascan Vanilla Hōjicha Latte Powder)
  • A splash of just-off-the-boil water
  • 200ml milk of choice, gently heated
  • Optional: a little honey, though the coconut sugar already does the sweetening

Method

  1. Add the Hōcha and a small splash of hot water to your chawan.
  2. Whisk briskly with a bamboo chasen in a light W-motion until you have a smooth, deep mahogany paste.
  3. Pour your warm milk into a favourite cup.
  4. Tip the paste in and watch the amber rise and swirl through the cream.

Toasted chestnut, warm caramel, a thread of gentle woodsmoke — and around 10mg of caffeine, so the calm stays intact.
